With 2024 off to the races, it’s the perfect time to set new goals and start working towards them. If you’ve set running goals this year, I have three words of motivation that will keep you moving all year long: Do It Anyway.
These three words are more than just a mantra. They are a call to action, reminding you that even when you’re not feeling up to it, it’s time to put on your shoes and run.
Why? Because motivation isn’t always there when you need it. It’s an unreliable friend…here one moment, gone the next. Instead of waiting around for it to show up, take the initiative. Start running, and let the energy from your actions fuel your motivation.
However, while “Do It Anyway” is a powerful motto, it’s also important to recognize when not to push.
There are smart exceptions to this rule:
Scheduled Rest Days
These are as crucial as training days. If you feel like running on a rest day, resist the urge. Rest days help your body recover and grow stronger. Ignoring them can lead to overtraining and sabotage your performance.
When You’re Sick
If you are unwell, give your body the rest it needs to recover. Pushing through sickness can prolong your recovery and negatively impact your performance.
When You’re Injured
Running on an injury can worsen the condition and prolong your recovery time. Seek medical advice and allow yourself the necessary time to heal.
Unsafe Conditions
If it’s too dark, the weather is bad, or you’re in unfamiliar territory, it might be safer to skip your run or opt for an indoor workout.
Remember, the goal is not just to run, but to run smarter. Knowing when to push and when to rest is key to achieving your running goals in 2024.
So, whenever you find yourself debating whether to go for a run, remember these three words: Do It Anyway. But always listen to your body and make smart decisions about when to rest and recover.
Cheers to a year of great runs and personal bests,
Martise : )
