Hey Runner!
This is a shoe-awareness announcement.
Are your rockin’ raggedy running shoes?
I get it. I mean…I do it too. And these are the usual reasons:
THEY ARE COMFORTABLE
But let’s be real: Worn in and worn out are two different things.
THEY ARE A BADGE OF HONOR
Ok, yes. Dirty, scuffed up kicks are proof of use and the baby toes need freedom and optimal air flow. But there comes a point when “real runner” shoes become a real problem.
IGNORANCE OF RAGGEDNESS
Most times we just put on our shoes and go, never taking a moment to check for holes or missing tread. This state of unconscious incompetence invites injuries because the integrity of running shoes matter. It has a direct impact on form, stability, and the amount of impact that enters the body.
WISHING FOR A NEW PAIR
If only running shoes grew on trees–but they don’t. Instead, most quality running shoes costs more than $100 a pair. And that can be an unwanted expense on top of everything else we pay for. So here’s an idea to reduce the sticker shock. Start saving $5 a week for every week that you run. So by the time the old shoes need to be replaced, you’ll be fully funded for the next pair.
KEEPING THE NEW KICKS NEW
Yes, vanity can be a real deterrent to high performance. I mean…who doesn’t want their beautiful new shoes to stay beautiful forever? But really, which is more attractive…unworn shoes or unwanted injuries. It’s your choice.
So if you chose to run fast and reduce injury risk…do yourself a favor and get rid of your raggedy shoes.
